Why Hospice?

Hospice is normally viewed as someone’s final days. That’s the ending, but not the beginning of hospice care.

Many families tell us, “I should have done this much sooner.”

Through their experiences, they saw the benefits and blessings of hospice for their loved one and for themselves.

People who choose hospice early in their diagnosis have their pain and symptoms managed sooner, so they have a better quality of life. It’s common for individuals to improve in the beginning because their needs are met. Also, it gives individuals a bigger role in their care and how they want to live the rest of their life. They also receive a trusted support system – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually – to be by their side.

It’s why we encourage individuals with life-threatening conditions to make the choice early in their prognosis.

What Is Hospice?

Hospice helps individuals with life-limiting illnesses to live life as fully as possible without pain. It surrounds and supports those in our care with a team of medical, emotional, social and spiritual professionals to relieve physical and emotional distress, as well as impart spiritual needs.

When an individual chooses hospice care early in their diagnosis, they have more control in their care and how they want to live the rest of their life.

Shirkey Hospice celebrates and honors the uniqueness of each life. So our care plans are tailored to each individual after meeting and understanding their needs.

What hospice is not:

  • It does not hasten one’s life.
  • It does not over medicate or drug patients.

MORE CARE.
MORE VISITS.
MORE LIKE FAMILY.

Shirkey Hospice is dedicated to making each moment matter for the people we serve. Our hometown approach to hospice care means we go beyond what is required, and do whatever it takes for the benefit of the patient and their family.
